Recent Representative Projects:

  • Fuel-Vehicle Competitive Intelligence Briefings for Automaker: An automaker needed ongoing tracking, monitoring and competitive intelligence on fuel-vehicle developments, issues and trends in the U.S. I compiled monthly reports covering a range of topics including state low carbon fuel issues, ethanol policy and market developments, octane, fuel economy, vehicle emission standards and zero emission vehicles, among other topics. I briefed management as needed on key issues and questions of importance to them. With a deeper understanding of the situation in the U.S., management is able to more effectively brief senior management on developments and strategize and plan future powertrain developments.
  • Market Study in Advanced Biofuels Gets Company a Loan: An advanced biofuels company needed a market assessment of the potential market for its product as applied to the diesel and marine markets for a government loan application for its production facility that it was developing. I researched current market and policy developments for both diesel and marine fuels, conducted interviews with key stakeholders in the space and developed a study the client could reference in its loan application documentation. The loan was subsequently approved and the client’s advanced biofuels facility is currently under construction.
  • Ethanol Supply and Demand Study Equips Trade Group for Advocacy: A study I conducted for an ethanol trade group took a clear-eyed view of the potential to reach 16 billion gallons of consumption by 2022 and offered pathways for how the industry could reach this target in light of current legislative and regulatory constraints surrounding the Renewable Fuels Standard. The client was able to assess and incorporate these pathways into its advocacy efforts to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Capitol Hill.
  • Competitive Intelligence in New Technologies Powers Decarbonization: In a biannual, multiyear engagement, I researched, reviewed, gathered competitive intelligence and presented to an oil company’s management on market, policy and technology issues in the transport energy space, including on electric vehicles, biofuels, hydrogen, RNG and carbon capture and storage (CCS), among other issues. In addition, I presented to senior management on global transport energy decarbonization trends. As a result, the client developed a comprehensive decarbonization strategy and is now implementing it.
  • RNG Market & Policy Research Enables Entry to International Markets: A client in the renewable natural gas (RNG) space was looking to understand international markets to understand the policy and market conditions and evaluate whether it could or should enter those markets. I researched the current policy landscape in several countries and conducted interviews with key stakeholders. I then prepared a report discussing the policy situation (present and future) and market conditions as well as the competitive intelligence gathered and participated in several strategy meetings to discuss the results. With a better and in-depth understanding, the client was able to develop a market strategy as a result of the work.
  • A Fuel Retailer Selects Partner for EV Charging: A fuel retailer was developing its strategy to offer EV charging at its sites. I worked with the fuel retailer to develop a strategy and then outreached to potential partners for further discussions. With a sound strategy in hand, the fuel retailer was able to select the right partner to develop charging at its sites.
